Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s overwhelming victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic development.

Dogara, who served as the Bauchi State Coordinator and Collation Officer and was also a member of the national Presidential Primary Election Committee, said the result represented more than a personal victory for Tinubu, describing it as a clear endorsement of grassroots democracy.
Congratulating the President on behalf of Bauchi State and in his role on the committee, Dogara said the victory was historic, remarkable, and well deserved.
According to the final results, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, while his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, polled 15,503 votes. Dogara said the huge margin reflected the confidence and trust millions of APC members across the country have in the President. He added that the outcome symbolised a nationwide movement driven by the support of party members.
He also commended the election committee led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, alongside notable members including Ken Nnamani, Victor Ndoma-Egba, and Idris Wada, for conducting a transparent, credible, and fair exercise. Dogara stated that the committee was entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring integrity throughout the process and successfully delivered on that mandate.
Dogara further praised Tinubu for choosing to participate in direct primaries under the Electoral Act 2026, which eliminated delegate voting and gave millions of party members at the grassroots the opportunity to participate directly. He noted that despite being the incumbent President, Tinubu opted to submit himself to the will of the people rather than rely on the privileges of office. According to Dogara, this demonstrated humility, courage, and a strong commitment to democratic values, especially as Tinubu not only signed the law but also championed the reforms before participating under the same rules.
In his concluding remarks, Dogara urged Tinubu to uphold the trust placed in him by Nigerians with integrity and dedication. He reminded the President that nearly eleven million Nigerians had invested their hopes in his leadership, describing it as a responsibility of historic significance. He charged Tinubu to remain faithful to that mandate, adding that history and Nigerians alike are watching with pride.
