The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,760 personnel across the state ahead of the 2026 Eid-El-Kabir celebrations to ensure public safety, peace and order.
The deployment, according to the Command, is part of proactive security measures aimed at protecting lives, property and critical national assets before, during and after the Sallah festivities.
In a statement issued in Makurdi by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ejelikwu Michael, a Superintendent of Corps, the State Commandant, Bitrus Larai, directed Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Heads of Special Units and Location Commanders to intensify surveillance and remain proactive throughout the celebration period.
Larai noted that with Eid-El-Kabir scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2026, large gatherings are expected at Eid prayer grounds, markets and recreational centres across the 23 local government areas of the state.
She therefore ordered the strategic deployment of personnel to provide security, crowd control, traffic management and emergency response services at designated prayer grounds and other sensitive locations to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.
She said: “You are aware the Eid-El-Kabir is scheduled for 27th and 28th May 2026, therefore large congregations are expected at Eid prayer grounds, markets and recreational parks across the 23 Local Government Areas.
“Consequently, you are directed to deploy personnel to provide security, crowd control, traffic management and emergency response at all designated Eid prayer grounds and strategic locations to ensure peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration,” the statement said.
The Commandant urged officers and men of the Corps to maintain professionalism, vigilance and dedication while carrying out their responsibilities.
She also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working closely with other security agencies to sustain peace and security across the state.
The statement added that personnel drafted for the operation were drawn from specialised units including the Female Strike Force, Agro Rangers Unit, Mining Marshal, VIP Protection Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit, as well as the Counter Terrorism and Rapid Response Unit.
Larai assured law-abiding residents of adequate security throughout the festive period and called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining law and order.
She further wished Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-El-Kabir celebration and advised residents to report emergencies through the command’s dedicated line: 09022991199.
