Who Is God?
I am not like Fredrick Nietzsche who questioned the existence of God and declared him dead
I am equally not Epicurus who was famous for what is called the “Problem of Evil.
” He asked how an all-powerful, all-good God could allow suffering and evil to exist. He was technically questioning the all knowing and all powerful attributes of God.I am not also David Hume who criticized the traditional arguments for God’s existence and argued that human reason has limits when discussing divine matters.
If you think I am Baron d’Holbach you are greatly wrong .He argued that nature alone could explain reality, thereby watering down the concept of a Divine being that orchestrated things into being.
Karl Marx is far from being my personality. He viewed
religion as a human creation that helped people cope with suffering while supporting existing social structures.
Absolutely not in the shoes of Bertrand Russell who
argued that there was insufficient evidence to justify belief in God. His essay Why I Am Not a Christian became influential.
Can’t even touch Jean-Paul Sartre with the longest stick of affection. He developed an existentialist philosophy that assumed God’s nonexistence and emphasized human freedom and responsibility.
A. J. Ayer is certainly not my crush. He argued that statements about God could not be scientifically verified and therefore lacked factual meaning.
I am different from all these great philosophers whose thoughts and views about God do not sit well with me. I am only asking who God is amidst the distractive and often repulsive impressions many make of God.
I am just a worried soul who genuinely seeks to understand who God is. If he has a daul personality. The one who kills, the one who advocates an eye for an eye , or the one whose love, forgiveness, compassion and empathy are unfathomable.
I sincerely wish to understand who this God is, who kills ones enemies at the instance of the aggrieved. Who is this God? Who blesses because one gives or the God whose blessings are without discrimination, loving both the righteous and the sinner?
Who is God? The various opinions many express about God contradict his real nature of love. They create an image of who they think God is and shove it down people’ throats
Who is God? A serial killer? A messager of one powerful man or woman of God, who feel offended and insulted and sends this God for revenge and avenge?
Until we have a dispassionate understanding of who this God is, how he operates, his nature and disposition to his creatures, we would continue to have a disfigured image of him from the preachings and braggadocious mannerism of some of these men and women of God whose ego and belly are their gods.
Who is God in the midst of all these cacophony ,tomfoolery and buffoonery of some of these gospel- motivational preachers?
Who is God in their grandstanding and show of power?
Who is God in the manipulative ministration of these men and women of God seeking self attention than pointing God to them?
The question who is God, its answer will only be found in the quiet hours, spent seeking God.
Only in this moment of self yielding can the real person of God would be revealed, not from the pulpit of some of these power drunk and attention seeking gospel preachers. Who is God? Unravel this question in the closet of your altar.
May be He may unveil himself as a God who kills, or one whose compassion is so unfathomable, repulsing the death of a wicked man, desiring only for him to live?
A God who allows both the righteous and the sinner to enjoy the rain and Sun, the God with the image of the prodigal son’ father, who seeks for his return not his condemnation.
Who wants him return not his apologies. Who judged him not by his past but forgives him unconditionally and treated him like a prince.
This is my image of who God is, not one holding a sledge hammer, waiting for a slip to hit. Not an “Amadioha”, ready to strike at the incantation of one Chief priest, desiring for the blood of one innocent or otherwise victim out there.
The image of God has been so distorted, only those with a personal relationship with him would recognise him in the midst of these distortions. To you who have no personal relationship with him, any image presented to you becomes your perception of him, sadly 80% of Christians wallow ignorantly in this space.
