The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Federal Ministry of Transportation have begun plans to connect the Kano Railway Station and other railway operational facilities to the national electricity grid in a bid to improve the reliability of rail services.

The initiative was discussed during a stakeholders’ meeting held on July 7 at the TCN Kano Regional Headquarters, bringing together officials from the power and transport sectors as well as project consultants and contractors.

According to TCN, the proposed grid connection is designed to provide stable and reliable electricity to railway infrastructure under the Federal Ministry of Transportation, thereby improving the efficiency of rail operations.

Participants at the meeting reviewed the technical requirements for the project, implementation timelines, operational coordination and the responsibilities of the various stakeholders.

They also discussed compliance with national grid standards, network safety and the seamless integration of the railway facilities into the country’s transmission network.

Speaking during the engagement, TCN’s General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, Engr. M. K. Bello, underscored the need for sustained collaboration among all parties, noting that early technical planning would help ensure smooth project execution and dependable power supply to the railway facilities.
