Senate Advances Education, Security, Economy with Fresh Bills
The Nigerian Senate on Thursday introduced four bills for first reading during plenary in Abuja, marking the commencement of the legislative process for the proposed laws.
The bills include the University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc. ) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (HB. 962) and the National Rice Production, Processing and Research Institute, Igbemo, Ekiti State (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (HB. 584). Both were sponsored for first reading by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central).
Also introduced was the National Security Enhancement Bill, 2026 (SB. 1063), sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North).
The Senate equally gave first reading to the National Economic Recovery Bill, 2026 (SB. 1064), bringing the total number of bills introduced during Thursday’s sitting to four.
