Abure-Led Labour Party Barred from FCT Council Polls Over Legal Issues — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has once again reiterated that the faction of the Labour Party led by Barrister Julius Abure will not be allowed to take part in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, owing to unresolved legal disputes.

INEC explained that the faction lacks a valid access code required to upload candidates for the polls, as the controversy surrounding the party’s leadership is still pending before the courts. The Commission emphasized that it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will continue to defer to judicial proceedings until the cases are conclusively determined.
