The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strengthened its political presence in Sokoto State following the defection of thousands of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gorau Town, the political base of the member representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon.

Bashir Usman Gorau.
The mass defection took place in Gorau/Takakume Ward of Goronyo Local Government Area and is being viewed as a major setback for the ADC in the Sokoto East Senatorial District, as it occurred in the hometown of one of the party’s most prominent elected representatives.
The defectors were officially received during a colourful rally attended by APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters, who described the development as evidence of the party’s growing popularity and increasing public confidence in the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.
Speaking at the event, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party. He said the APC remains committed to inclusive leadership and the overall development of Sokoto State.
Sarkin Alaru also praised the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, for his commitment to grassroots mobilisation and the welfare of the people, noting that his efforts significantly contributed to expanding the APC’s support base in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Hussaini Gorau attributed the increasing wave of defections across the state to the people-focused leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and the enduring political influence of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. According to him, the administration’s investments in road infrastructure, rural development, agriculture, security and efforts to combat banditry have continued to improve the lives of residents and attract more supporters to the APC.
The APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, urged the new members to remain loyal, united and committed to the party’s ideals in order to sustain its growing influence across the local government.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said they decided to join the APC because of the visible achievements of the Governor Ahmad Aliyu-led administration, particularly in infrastructure development, improved security and the provision of essential social amenities in rural communities.
The rally also featured the presentation of awards to the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau; and the APC Sokoto East Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to community development and the growth of the party.
