Deputy Senate President Mourns Senator Okey Ezea
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Okey Ezea (Enugu North), who passed away on Tuesday in Lagos.
Born on August 11, 1963, the late Senator— a lawyer and businessman— was elected on the Labour Party platform to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau paid tribute to the late lawmaker, describing him as a pan-Nigerian politician.
He noted that until his passing, Senator Ezea served as the Vice Chairman of both the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, and the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy, where he made significant contributions to fostering unity and national development.
Calling the news of his death shocking, the Deputy Senate President said Senator Ezea would be remembered for his unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project, demonstrated through his impactful work within and outside the Senate.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of my friend— his wife, Madam Chioma, his children— as well as the entire people of Enugu North Senatorial District and Enugu State at large.
“May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Senator Okey Ezea was a patriotic Nigerian to the core, who dedicated himself to improving the welfare of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and beyond,” he stated.
