Easter: Nigerian Baptist Convention President Rejoices With Christians, Unveils Activities For 113th Annual Session Of The Convention
The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Isreal Adelani Akanji, FAR, has felicitated with Christians, particularly members of the Baptist family, on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration.
Speaking during an interview on the Network News of Radio Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Isreal Akanji urged Christians to reflect on the lessons of Easter, which focus on sacrifice, compassion, forgiveness, and hope for mankind.
He described Easter as the celebration of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
“The celebration indicates that we also have the hope of resurrection, and that is one of the joys of Easter. As Christians, we believe that the victory of Jesus over death calls for celebration because, through that victory, we know that Christ is alive, seated at the right hand of the Father, and continues to intercede for us,” he said.
In his words, “We believe that the victory of Jesus on the cross assures us that if He conquered death, He can also overcome every other challenge.”
Rev. Dr. Isreal Akanji therefore called on Nigerians to embrace a sacrificial lifestyle, love one another, and promote peaceful coexistence to ensure the nation’s growth and development.
He also advised political leaders to allow the spirit of Easter to guide them in governing the country, stressing the importance of preventing Nigeria from deteriorating further.
“Jesus came to save us from the powers of darkness and make us children of God. In the same way, we should be willing to lift people out of poverty, challenges, and difficulties. What we are witnessing in Nigeria today—where people attack and kill others in broad daylight—is unacceptable and contrary to the essence of Easter, which brings life, hope, and joy to humanity,” he emphasized.
On the forthcoming 113th Annual Session of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Isreal Akanji disclosed that necessary arrangements are being finalized to ensure a successful event.
He stated that the Convention, themed “Entering into Newness through the Fruit and Gifts of the Holy Spirit,” will take place from April 18 to 23 in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the event will be held at the Baptist International Convention Centre (BICC), Kubwa, Abuja, and will feature Bible teachings, review of activities over the past year, and prayers for Nigeria and its leadership, among other activities.
While wishing all messengers traveling to the Convention a safe journey, the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention expressed optimism that the gathering would further enhance the spiritual growth of participants.
