Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the 14th President of the Senate representing Yobe North Senatorial District, has expressed appreciation following a grassroots fundraising initiative that has so far generated about ₦188 million in pledges and donations toward the purchase of his APC governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 Yobe State election.

The fundraising event took place on Sunday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
In a message of appreciation issued on Monday, Senator Lawan praised the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Dr. Mohammed Goni Yerima, describing their effort as “a demonstration of responsible citizenship” and a redefinition of grassroots political participation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the funds were realized through pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers into a designated Sterling Bank account (0126966296).
Senator Lawan highlighted that one of the most remarkable aspects of the exercise was the volume of small contributions ranging from ₦100 to ₦3,000, made by widows, mechanic apprentices, traders, and students.
“That, to me, represents the true meaning of grassroots participation and community ownership. You have not only raised funds for forms; you have redefined what it means to be progressive citizens of Yobe State,” Senator Lawan said.
The former Senate President noted that the initiative reflects a collective investment in a shared vision for an open, accountable, and transparent government driven by the people of Yobe State.
“My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May Allah continue to guide and direct us in this endeavour. Amin,” he added.
