The Federal Government on Friday confirmed that air strikes have been conducted on terrorist targets in the North-West, as part of Nigeria’s ongoing security partnership with international allies.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, announced this in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

He said the action followed heightened cooperation with the United States and other partners to counter the activities of extremist groups in the region.

“The Ministry confirms that Nigerian authorities engaged in Structured Security Cooperation with international partners, including the U.S., in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism,” Tuggar said.

“This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West.”

The development comes after the U.S. government indicated plans to expand support for Nigeria’s surveillance and counter-terrorism operations. It also follows an order by U.S. President Donald Trump authorising strikes against ISIS-linked militants believed to be operating in the area.

Tuggar stressed that the collaboration is guided by established diplomatic practices, bilateral agreements, and international law, including intelligence sharing and strategic coordination while respecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.

He reiterated that the protection of civilians remains central to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy.

“Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” he said.

According to the minister, Nigeria will continue working closely with its allies to undermine terrorist networks, disrupt financing and logistics chains, and prevent cross-border threats, while further strengthening national security institutions.

He added that the Ministry will continue to maintain communication with relevant partners and provide updates to the public through authorised channels.
