Governor Okpebholo Mourns Passing of Elder Statesman, DIG (Rtd.) Parry Osayande
The Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a revered elder statesman and former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Mr.
Parry Benjamin Osayande, CFR.Governor Okpebholo extended heartfelt condolences to the Osayande family, the Benin Kingdom, and the entire people of Edo State on the loss of this distinguished son of the state.
He described the late DIG Osayande as an icon of professionalism and patriotism whose life was wholly dedicated to serving his community and the nation.
“Our state has lost a giant, a man of impeccable character whose contributions to the peace and security of Nigeria—and particularly to the history of the defunct Bendel State and present-day Edo State—will never be forgotten,” the Governor said.
He noted that the name Parry Osayande has become synonymous with courage, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Governor Okpebholo recalled his legendary exploits as Commissioner of Police in the then Bendel State, where he fearlessly confronted high-profile criminal gangs of the 1980s—a record that remains a benchmark for police operational excellence in Nigeria.
The Governor further highlighted that DIG Osayande’s impact went beyond his service years, pointing to his role as a reformer and intellectual within the Nigeria Police Force.
“Even in retirement, DIG Osayande continued to serve as a national asset, bringing his wealth of experience to various presidential and police reform committees. His dedication to restructuring the force for better service delivery was remarkable. He was a true son of the soil who consistently championed the cause of Edo people in every role he played,” Governor Okpebholo added.
His Excellency prayed that God grants the departed eternal rest and gives the family, friends, and associates the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
