Just in: Maikalangu Re-Elected as AMAC Chairman
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, announced that Maikalangu, who is the incumbent chairman, secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast to emerge winner of the election.
According to the official results, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 3,398 votes.
Abue disclosed that 2,336 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197. He added that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 voters accredited for the exercise.
“That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Abue stated.

Reacting shortly after the declaration, the APC collation agent, Gambo Babale, described the election and collation process as credible and transparent.
He commended INEC for what he called a thorough and open process across polling units, ward collation centres, and the AMAC collation centre.
Babale noted that the PDP won two ward councillorship seats in Karu and Karishi, describing it as proof of fairness in the exercise.
He said the victory would further motivate Maikalangu to deliver more dividends of democracy to residents and expressed optimism that the APC is well-positioned ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) ward collation agent, Abdullahi Ibrahim, applauded the transparency of the process and congratulated the winner.
Result sheets were reportedly signed by party agents of the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP who were present at the collation centre.
