National Grid Collapse Triggers Nationwide Power Outage

Nigeria experienced a nationwide power outage on Friday, January 23, 2026, following the collapse of the national electricity grid.
Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) revealed that power generation dropped to zero megawatts, resulting in a total blackout across the country.


The data further indicated that electricity supply to all 11 distribution companies fell to zero as of 1:00 p.m.
The affected distribution companies include Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja and Yola, all of which recorded zero load allocation during the period.
