NTAC DG Hails President Tinubu on Historic Technical Manpower Agreement with Saint Lucia …Says Initiative Will Deepen South-South Cooperation, Strengthen Diaspora Ties

The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the successful signing of a groundbreaking Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement with the Government of Saint Lucia.

In a statement issued by Ojo Adetoun Olubunmi, Head of Information and Public Relations at NTAC, and made available to journalists in Abuja, the DG described the agreement as a major milestone in Nigeria’s technical diplomacy efforts under the Tinubu administration.

According to the statement, the agreement, signed on July 2, 2025, in Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia, was formalized by Rt. Hon. Buba Yakub and the Acting Permanent Secretary of Saint Lucia’s Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs, Janelle Modeste-Stephen.

“This milestone achievement is a direct outcome of President Tinubu’s vision to broaden Nigeria’s technical diplomacy footprint across the Caribbean, particularly through strategic partnerships with members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS),” the statement noted.

Key Features of the Agreement Include:

Deployment of Nigerian Professionals: Nigerian experts in fields such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and other critical sectors will serve in Saint Lucia for two years, contributing to national development and capacity building.

Support Structure: The Nigerian government will provide allowances and logistics support for the volunteers, while Saint Lucia will ensure accommodation and local support services.

Policy Alignment: The initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s foreign policy thrust focused on regional collaboration, South-South cooperation, and re-engagement with the African diaspora.

Speaking on the significance of the development, Director-General Yusuf Buba Yakub described the agreement as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leader in South-South cooperation.

> “This landmark agreement underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering drive to advance South-South cooperation and Nigeria’s leadership in technical diplomacy. It also presents a platform for our professionals to share knowledge, strengthen international partnerships, and reconnect with our diaspora brothers and sisters in the Caribbean,” Buba stated.

He praised the President for his visionary leadership and expressed optimism that the collaboration with Saint Lucia would yield meaningful impact, promote mutual growth, and enhance Nigeria’s global image as a country committed to development-focused diplomacy.
