Operation Sweep FCT Begins as Police Intensify Surveillance Across Abuja
Security agencies operating within the Federal Capital Territory have commenced a renewed joint security operation aimed at boosting surveillance, improving emergency response, and intensifying the fight against criminal activities across Abuja and neighbouring communities.
The development was announced in a statement released on May 15, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, officially reactivated the security initiative known as “Operation Sweep FCT” with the support of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The operation was formally launched on Friday at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Police authorities explained that the renewed operation is intended to deter criminal activities, improve visibility policing, and ensure quicker coordinated responses to security threats within the nation’s capital.
The operation involves personnel from several security and emergency agencies, including the FCT Police Command, the Military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, and other relevant agencies.
The statement further disclosed that the operation has been divided into various sectors to enhance operational coordination, strengthen rapid response capabilities, and maintain a stronger security presence across the territory.
The police added that personnel participating in the operation have been instructed to remain proactive and maintain high levels of professionalism while carrying out their duties.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Command urged residents of the FCT to stay vigilant, obey the law, and promptly report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
The police also expressed confidence that the renewed collaboration among security agencies would enhance public safety and improve overall security coordination within the Federal Capital Territory.
