What If Tinubu Becomes The Only Name On The Ballot?
By Dr jalarth Uche Opara
The truth is, Nigerians are docile and our collective strength to engage without hidden interest, very weak. We have the grace to suffer with smiles and laughter that deminish the seriousness of our ordeal, dressed smartly, with bowtie on a coat, under the scorching sun, shoes chopped disappropotionately with trousers that cry under the tight hold of a worn out belt, we keep moving, believing that one day God would remember us and it would be uhuru.
For years we have followed this route and our oppressors who understand the dynamics of our disposition, cash in on it knowing that our bark is always the bark of a toothless bulldog.
Buhari came, promised heaven on earth. Many who today are crying, made a god of him and moulded him as the saviour of Nigeria in distress. Even when his lacklustre administration was steering the economic ship of Nigeria into the red sea of coma, they still didn’t realise the disaster the packaged in him.
In all these, the poor masses smiled, laughed, wore their coats, with their tie hitting their disaligned shoes under the sun, hoping that it would be better. For eight years we were under the hot baptism of Buhari administration.
Same persons that hyped Buhari into power, regrouped again and brought Tinubu through means that was at best description very unclear. On the first day in office, he removed subsidy, heralding the very bleeding and painful economic situation that has become our reality for three years.
Nigerians have been stressed and over stretched by the Tinubu administration, yet we smile and laugh, hoping as usual that it would be better.
Our adrenaline very normal and our gallbladder not ready to burst. Until it breaks, our head may be inside that gallows, ready to be chopped off, we would still be smiling and laughing.
Nigerians seem very complacent. Nothing moves us to the point of anger, disaffection etc that would provoke civil confrontation. Nothing hits us so deep, taking a position of “If we die we die if we live we live” becomes our creed.
The power residing in coordinated masses is enormous, it can pull down walls, break into shreds mountains and scorch to dryness oceans. Until we realise how powerful we can be as masses, until this raw power is coordinated and thrown like bombs to our oppressors, Tinubu would equally be the only name on the ballot and nothing would happen.
Nigerians masses are abysmally down already fearing a fall would be very delusional.
The ordeal of ADC is the misery of all. The stifling of ADC is the muffling of our voice. The smouldering of ADC is the abortion of democracy. Democracy is at the verge of annihilation like the specie called Dinosaur, once a breed of animal but today in extinction. If we are not very careful, democracy would be ‘dinosaured’
Our destiny is in our hands– The masses. We can allow it to die out of complacency, docility or resolve to stand and fight for its survival no matter whose ox is gored.
With this our attitude of complacency and aloofness, Tinubu would effortlessly be the only man standing for election in 2027, not even a cough would be heard. Our Mumum is becoming pathological and Our “I Don’t Care Attitude” very irritating. Awake you slumbering masses, your voices are going and your right to choose who leads you on the threshold of disintegration .
The power of a united masses is like a tsunami. It pulls down anything on its way. This power needs to be activated not for any political party but for the future of our democracy that is fragile, lying prostrate in an intensive Care unit.
