Church Without Modern Structure , But Saved.
By Dr jarlat Uche opara
The Church without modern structure but filled with souls broken and repented is better than one with steeze, polish pews, mosaic windows, chilled with AC with ornaments and gadgets speaking affluence and riches while souls on those pews look shrivelled and mangled spiritually.
The latter are good but the latter with the former is a waste, worthless, more of pouring water in a perforated bowl.
We are becoming too steeze conscious in the administration of the church while the soul part gets at best the crumps. Souls winning through detailed catechesis and impactful sermons are by day dwindling while the conscious competition of building structures and its ornamental beautification riding on the back of the golden horse.
Every pastor wants to ride on such a horse, a flaunting that earns public adulation but nothing for the nourishment of the soul whose destination is not here, the ephemeral world, but in eternity.
From South to East, beyond the boundaries of North and West the story is the same. The story of the obsession of building structures, edifice etc for public validation and hyping while the souls that sit in such cozy and seemingly palatial confinement are themselves pig in indecency, dogs in immorality, snakes in subtleness, vultures in corruption, tortoise in spiritual slothfulness etc
Steeze is good. Worshiping under decent environment, where Ac blows with the chill of the air very welcoming. However, it becomes a misplacement of priority, a square peg in a round hole when those who enjoy such have a spiritual quotient that is ridiculously low and deficient.
A church with steeze and aesthetic structures is good, a subsidiary if you ask me to the souls that are powered and imbued with the flow and influence of the Holy Spirit.
God does not dwell in structures made my ornaments, bricks and gold. He dwells rather in unperishable structures of our souls. When the bible says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, it is not the physical structure that is made of wood, sand, gold and diamond but one that is designed by the mind of God and equipped by the gift and fruit of the Holy Spirit.
What a sight having a well decorated home with expensive modern ornaments only to be inhabited by pigs with all its stinks and higgledy-piggledy lifestyle. Isn’t this a reflection of what we see in many of our churches today? Not different from a well dressed dude with hair unkempt and unbathed body.
Church without a modern church auditorium, state of the art civic centre but with members broken, repented and saved is my ideal church. Let us begin to build souls more. Feed souls spiritually more than creatively creating physical structure, spending millions when the souls that would use such are themselves rotten in ungodliness.
