NiMet Completes 2026–2030 Strategic Plan Cascade to Boost Service Delivery, Accountability

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded the cascading of its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan across all directorates, marking a key step in aligning the agency’s operations with its long-term vision of delivering world-class meteorological services.

The exercise followed the launch of NiMet’s Strategy 2026–2030 on March 16, 2026, and was designed to translate the agency’s enterprise-wide goals into actionable plans for each directorate.

According to NiMet, the strategy is built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework and is anchored on five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives aimed at strengthening meteorological service delivery, improving organisational performance, and enhancing climate resilience nationwide.

The agency said the cascading exercise was initiated to ensure that every directorate clearly understands its role in implementing the strategic plan and contributing to the achievement of NiMet’s overall objectives.

It explained that the exercise focused on converting enterprise-wide objectives into directorate-specific priorities by aligning operational goals, processes, and performance indicators with the agency’s strategic direction.

NiMet noted that the process also established key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance accountability while integrating strategic objectives into individual performance plans to promote ownership and responsibility among staff.

To facilitate broad participation, the exercise was conducted in four batches covering the agency’s nine directorates and the Office of the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer.

The first batch involved the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services and Applied Meteorological Services. The second covered the Office of the Director-General/CEO, Corporate Services, and Research and Training.

The third included Engineering and Technical Services as well as Human Resource Management and Administration, while the final batch brought together the Directorates of Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and Legal Services.

NiMet said the structured implementation process is expected to strengthen the link between strategy and day-to-day operations, improve institutional capacity, enhance accountability, and deliver better meteorological services in support of national development.

The agency added that the successful completion of the exercise provides a unified framework for all directorates to work towards achieving the goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
