Wamakko Shines at Niger Republic’s Wrestling Extravaganza

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko proudly represented Nigeria at the 2025 Annual Wrestling Festival held in Tawa, Niger Republic, on the morning of December 29, 2025. The colourful event marked 50 years of celebrating culture, unity, and traditional sports.
At the climax of the competition, Nura Hassan of Tawa State emerged champion after defeating Zakiru Zakari in an electrifying final bout.
Commending the longevity and cultural significance of the festival, Senator Wamakko applauded the organisers for sustaining the tradition over the decades. He also made personal donations to outstanding wrestlers and key stakeholders at the event.
Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, further added to the celebration by rewarding the winner with a Hajj seat, while also presenting cash gifts to popular Hausa music sensation, Sagalo.
Dignitaries at the festival included Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Labour and Productivity, Malam Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi; the Honourable Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo; and Representative Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, among others.
Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, expressed appreciation to all guests for their presence, while the Minister of Sports, Sidi Muhammad El-Mahmud, announced Zinder State as host of the 2026 edition of the festival.
The event once again highlighted Senator Wamakko’s commitment to promoting Nigerian goodwill and cultural ties beyond the country’s borders.
